Trustee
Shetland Women's Aid
Post
Trustee
Job Description
Shetland Women’s Aid is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), Care Inspectorate, and Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR). The Trustees play a pivotal role in supporting the service manager, shaping the charity’s strategic direction, and overseeing the organisation’s good governance. We annually look to add to our board to keep our skills and knowledge up to date and as broad as possible to support the charity.
We seek feminist women with a diverse range of skills and experiences. Whether you have skills in administration, law and legal systems, fundraising, or experience working in Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) organisations, or if you have previous board experience, we encourage you to apply. Media, journalism, health and social care, business planning, social affairs, housing, access and inclusion, lived experience, human resources, or any other relevant experience would also be welcome. We believe that a diverse board will best serve the needs of the charity and the women and children it supports.
This is an unpaid position. As permitted under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010, it is an occupational requirement that applications be open to women only. This is crucial to our commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Speaking about board membership, one of our current Trustees said: “I’ve been a Trustee of Shetland Women’s Aid for two years. I find it rewarding to use skills gained in my working life to help support the charity’s work. The board has a great mix of skills, and we value each member’s unique contributions. If you become a Trustee, the time you give will help support women and children in Shetland at some of the most challenging points of their lives. If you’d like to help, please put in an application to join the board.”
Applications from outside Shetland are welcome, although a strong connection or relationship to the islands is desirable.
To apply, please contact Pam in the SWA office at 01595 692070 or email office@shetlandwa.org. We can forward the application documents and arrange a discussion about the positions. If you would like to discuss your suitability and receive more information, please ask to speak to a recruitment team member.
The closing date will be Monday 28th October 2024.
