SHIFT CHEMIST (Lab Analyst), SULLOM VOE TERMINAL

ABOUT THE ROLE:

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time permanent shift chemist to join our team. The role involves supporting Intertek’s Field services pillar at the Sullom Voe Terminal Laboratory in Shetland. Taking and analysing routine samples on site as well third-party samples. Reporting analysis results to clients.

The post of Shift Chemist will involve working 12-hour shifts (0800 – 2000) and (2000 – 0800) on a rotating basis.

Qualifications required can be degree, HND or HNC in a STEM discipline. Lab experience taken into consideration, but no experience required as training will be given.

 

Key Activities

General

  • Perform all routine testing required at the Sullom Voe Terminal Laboratory to an acceptable standard with the minimum supervision.
  • To take samples and perform analyses on site and/or at third party locations.
  • Report all analysis relevant to the Terminal operation.
  • Prepare third party reports for authorisation by Laboratory Management.
  • Performs duties in a safe manner in accordance with company and Terminal regulations.
  • Avoid unsafe acts and follow company Health Safety & Environmental Procedures.
  • Ensure familiarity with Health Safety & Environmental information issued by the company.
  • Report all accidents and incidents no matter how trivial & report near misses using Near Miss forms.
  • Assisting in the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses where required.
  • Ensuring that safety devices and manufacturer’s instructions are followed when using equipment.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Full and clean driving licence
  • Good IT literacy skills, especially Excel
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude and ability to work as part of a small team.
  • Ability to critique and improve activities through continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and with strong organisational and time management skills.
