We’re currently recruiting for a Lab Technician to support the Lab Supervisor in delivering the Fish Health (Water Quality) lab services within our Shetland region.

Scottish Sea Farms consider that a commitment to fish health and welfare will be reflected in stock performance and ultimately, the profitability of our business. The Lab team provide an essential service to our sites through the rapid identification and enumeration of harmful plankton and jellyfish species. Awareness and skill in analyzing water quality for harmful species affecting fish health and welfare are considered essential for the future of our farming operations.

The role | The Lab Technician will analyse water samples, including identification and enumeration of harmful species, which will be reported to our marine production sites daily. Other duties will include; training on harmful species sampling; data handling; database entry and maintenance; stock control and; basic maintenance and calibration of sampling and analytical equipment. The successful candidate will also support with any relevant projects and will be responsible for general lab housekeeping.

The ideal candidate | will have excellent communication skills and a strong eye for detail. We’re looking for an ambitious individual who is eager to learn and develop their skills. The Lab is a fast-paced environment, and you will often be required to work to time sensitive deadlines. Candidates should be proficient in using Microsoft Excel, and lab experience, although not essential, would be desirable.
