Fixed Term Contract period: 18 months

Distant Islands Allowance is currently set at £2,742 (pro rata) which would be in addition to any salary payment.

 

JOB PURPOSE

The Janitor is the first point of contact for contractors to the estate and is responsible for monitoring and maintaining all SUHI buildings and assets, primarily across the Gremista campus.

 

MAIN DUTIES

This will include undertaking handyperson duties (including grounds maintenance), porter and mail delivery duties, and all statutory maintenance in accordance with legislative, health and safety and SUHI requirements, including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring the security of the premises and its contents, including the operation of fire and security systems and keyholding responsibilities.
  • Assisting with fire safety management including fire drills, inspections, testing and maintenance.
  • Ensuring that Portable appliance testing (PAT) is carried out as per statutory schedule.
  • Water quality inspection and testing – control of Legionella.
  • Scheduling, conducting and maintaining regular logs with regard to health and safety, statutory maintenance.
  • Overseeing the regular maintenance and servicing of heating, air conditioning plant and statutory maintenance of LEVs.
  • Statutory Safety Equipment inspection and maintenance.
  • General site maintenance, including weed control, signage, general repairs, light bulb replacement, batteries replaced in clocks, etc.
  • Undertaking routine and emergency cleaning duties as required within the whole premises including environs and grounds, e.g. removal of graffiti from walls and doors, accidental spillage etc.
  • Identifying major repair works required and reporting these to the Head of Facilities.
  • Promoting SUHI energy conservation policy.
  • Organising layout of classrooms and public areas.
  • Ensuring that good order and behaviour is maintained, i.e. confronting those littering or smoking, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining good décor internally and externally of the building.

The Janitor will be the first line contact for callouts out with normal working hours. This may include fire, security and maintenance response for all facilities on the Gremista campus.
