Job advertising on Shetland News
Advertising your job(s) with Shetland News is a cost-effective way of reaching your audience, both within Shetland and outside the isles.
Why should I advertise with Shetland News?
- Fast response/publishing times – Usually within an hour or less.
- Unlimited amendments – Made a mistake? Need to add extra details? Need to extend, or to close applications early? Online advertising means a simple amendment.
- No box sizes or word limits – Trying to cram everything you need to say into a defined space is frustrating. No size limit means you can give all the information you need to.
- Readership – In the last twelve months (taken from 30/10/2023) the main jobs page had over 300K page views from just over 190K people. There are approximately 22K people, in total, living in Shetland. Our reach is well beyond the Islands.
- Social media – Our job adverts are added to Facebook where they are widely shared.
- Several formats acceptable – Send us page links, MS Word files, PDFs, images or just plain text via email.
- Exclusive page use – A description page to yourself with no other job adverts competing for viewer attention.
- Job scheduling – Start on any date or time you choose.
How much does it cost? Prices ex VAT.
- £75 per vacancy, per week.
- £280 per vacancy, per four weeks (bulk rate). This could be split if you have multiple jobs at the same time, for example two jobs for two weeks each.
- £730 for unlimited jobs; higher rate applicable in exceptional circumstances.
- To see annual advertising packages which have job adverts included, visit http://shet.news/8rqsl.
- Discount available for charities, who can also be invoiced without VAT where applicable.
What do you need from us?
When you come to us as a new advertiser, there are a few things we need to set up, as a one-off requirement.
- A high quality logo on a white or transparent background. If there is no logo, we will make a simple text image.
- Your billing address.
- An email address to send the invoice to.
We also ask, if you have unlimited advertising, with no closing date set, that you let us know when vacancies have been filled.
Any content guidance? Will you change anything?
- Be as descriptive as you like. We can link to your corporate job page, or to your social media as well. Often we are sent a copy of a corporate page, which is fine however we’ll need to amend slightly to make sure the links work, or add a link so it functions as the author intended.
- You can add a photo if you like – this breaks up the monotony of a long job ad. We encourage ‘real’ photos where possible rather than stock photos.
- If we have a location for the job, we’ll add a map to the bottom of the job listing, unless you tell us otherwise.
- We’ll change any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. For example, ‘UK drivers license’ would be changed to ‘UK driving licence’.
- Where no cut-off time is given for application, the advert will run to 11.59pm on the final day.
- Be aware of discriminatory language. Frequent offences are ‘must be physically fit’, ‘driving licence required’ (for a non-driving job) and gendered job titles. There are always alternatives, see the ACAS website and Gov.uk. We may point this out to you.
- We don’t need/want/use QR codes. QR codes are for offline, printed media to make a link to a web site. Being online already means we don’t need them.
- Disclosing wage/salary makes your vacancy more attractive. Nobody wants to waste time on a job which pays too little, and job hunters feel uncomfortable asking. Giving salary details saves everyone time as well in the long run.
