Letters / ‘Smarty pants’ drivel

It has taken him a while to write again but Jonathan’s letter (What Savings Now, SIC? SN, 25/11/14) shows no reduction in his anger at the democratic vote not to close rural schools.

He starts by referring to the democratic majority as the ‘Shetland Insular Cabal’. Then he goes on to talk about what we, meaning Shetland Islands Council I think, can’t do in terms of covering the deficit in the education budget.

Next he wonders what folk (meaning the electorate) may imagine how the council would make the necessary economies, and, further, describes at length his own fantasy of the plans of the so-called cabal.

Never have I read so much ‘smarty pants’ drivel in all my life. He just can’t help himself – he just has to show off how much cleverer he is than the rest of us, including elected members of the Shetland Islands Council.

He would do himself more favours if he just joined in with the debate sensibly, without all the wisecracking sarcasm.

I still haven’t seen him mention children in all of this, nor show any empathy towards rural communities, nor give his own positive economic suggestions for the future.

His bitterness is unbecoming and not a pretty sight. He even goes so far as to try to play the guilt card – that we are somehow putting Lerwick schools at a disadvantage by saving rural schools! How low can you get?

Mr. Wills, you are intent on showing your true colours, and you can’t see that you are making a complete fool of yourself.

My advice is, keep your mouth shut unless you have anything positive to offer.
