Letters / Disgusted at SNP
I will be voting Yes, because I believe an independent government in Edinburgh, whoever runs it, can be made to understand Shetland and respect the views of people living here.
I didn’t vote SNP at the last election. I certainly won’t be voting for them either at the next election.
I was disgusted at the way they rubber stamped planning permission for Viking Energy.
At present I don’t think they understand Shetland, but I think they can be made to understand Shetland.
At present I will put their decisions down to ignorance. Other external political candidates tend to be even less well informed. That is what the status quo looks like in Shetland.
No such defence is available to our MP and MSP. Together they understood the situation on the ground all too well, but still choose to lobby and work on behalf of Viking Energy.
It is one thing when external politicians fail to help; it’s another when your own representatives actively work against you. Preserving the status quo means more of the same.
The bottom line is this; the referendum is about the future, not the past, not single parties or individuals. UK may be OK, but I think Shetland, and Scotland can do far better than just OK.
There are only two options on the ballot:
Yes. We can stand up and axe for what we want, it’s time for change.
No. We can stay on our knees and meekly accept whatever crumbs of comfort are offered by whoever wins the 2015 UK general election.
The future is in your hands on Thursday.
