Letters / Right to self-determination
Very interesting figures, Alan (Receive back less than we pay in; SN, 20/01/13). It shows that Scots pay less income tax and national insurance per head than the rest of the UK.
It also shows that oil contributes £2060 per head for Scotland and yet Scots only contribute £1700 per head more.
Take away the oil revenue and Scots are contributing £360 per head less than the rest of the UK.
Now lets get these same figures for Shetland comparative to Scotland and the rest of the UK.
If we are going to use the argument of who contributes the most per head as a basis for independence, then surely we Shetlanders have more right to self-determination than most.
