Letters / Art v Trout

I listened on Friday night in disbelief to Radio Shetland about the callous way that the Shetland Anglers’ hatchery has been treated at the hands of Shetland Arts.

Trying to stay impartial while I heard both sides of the argument, I struggled to believe what I was hearing about the destruction of a superb effort by a few people to keep sea trout running in Shetland waters.

It seemed that the driving force behind Shetland Arts’ decision to evict Shetland Anglers was money, although what the extra money was needed for was never explained clearly by the spokesman for Shetland Arts.

Can someone please explain why Shetland Arts needs this money so badly as to ruin the good work of Shetland Anglers who are trying to protect the future of the sea trout in Shetland waters.

THis has brought out the cycic in me and makes me wonder if this is not another part of the financing campaign to pay for the ‘tin hut’ in the town, Mareel.

If I am wrong then can someone please explain why Shetland Arts needs this money so badly as to ruin the good work of Shetland anglers who are trying to protect the future of sea trout in Shetland waters.

In my opinion Shetland Anglers should be rewarded for their dedication to the future of Shetland wildlife and not punished.

The cynic in me has made me think that perhaps some people in authority think the future of sea trout in Shetland waters is not as important as providing finance for the “arty” community.
