News / Scalloway PO reopens
ISLES MP Alistair Carmichael has cut the ribbon at Scalloway’s new post office in the premises of the village’s new pharmacy.
Tuesday’s opening marks the end of a difficult period for the village with the controversial separation of the pharmacy from the doctor’s surgery, as well as the closure of the post office housed in a second hand bookshop nearby.
Post Office spokeswoman Sue Richardson said she was delighted to have been able to appoint a new subpostmaster, who operates the new-style local branch from its new site within Norsepharm Ltd.
Carmichael added that it was good to see that the post office has been able to find a new home in Scalloway.
“I know from dealing with its previous relocations that it is a service that local people value very highly.
“The new branch will make a real difference for local residents and I wish all involved with it every success in building the business,” he said.
Richardson added that the opening hours had been extended by 21 hours and will be open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
