NEW Shetland Charitable Trust chairman Bobby Hunter has resigned from his position leading the fund that is hoping to earn a community benefit from the Viking Energy wind farm.
The lord lieutenant, who tendered his resignation the day after he was appointed to head the trust last week, said he felt it was necessary to avoid any conflict of interest.
Shetland Charitable Trust owns a 45 per cent financial stake in the Viking Energy development.
Hunter was elected chair at the first meeting of the trust after it was reformed to avoid conflicts of interest with Shetland Islands Council, which had previously dominated the trust.
The management committee for the Shetland Community Benefit Fund Ltd said they were grateful for Hunter’s hard work and determination in establishing the fund.
The committee will meet in early March to appoint a new chairman.
