Letters / The golden goose?
The Times on Friday reported that the British Geological Society (BGS) is expected to update their estimate of British shale gas reserves by up to 200 times greater than their original estimate.
The new estimate is claimed to be in the region of 1.3 to 1.7 quadrillion cubic feet, enough apparently to heat all Britain’s homes for 1,500 years!
Isn’t it amazing that the BGS could have got it so wrong before?
Equally amazingly, in the same edition of The Times, Liberal Democrat energy and climate change secretary Ed Davey is quoted saying of Britain’s shale gas potential:
“It is not the golden goose. The experts are clear that they do not expect this to have a major impact on the gas price.”
This is a public statement by a senior minister of Her Majesty’s Government whose Liberal Democratic party fanatically supports renewable energy and who has the power to keep British shale gas in the ground and is doing everything he can to keep it there.
Meanwhile, according to The Courier:
“Almost 30% of Scottish residents are being left in fuel poverty and Energy Action Scotland claims the figure could be as high as 40%.”
Alastair Carmichael MP and Tavish Scott MSP, as prominent Liberal Democrats, are party to this.
