News / Yes Shetland gets under way

THE LOCAL group campaigning for a ‘Yes’ vote in the 2014 referendum on  independence for Scotland will be holding a public meeting on Friday 18 January.

Yes Shetland was officially set up last Friday, but office bearers have not been named yet.

Members hope to be able to deliver leaflets and launch a website between now and the meeting in January.

A spokesman said: “People are more open to the idea of independence than they have ever been before.

“They can see that Scotland should be independent, because it is fundamentally better for us all if decisions are taken by the people who care most about our country, that is, by voters in Scotland.

“Voters in Scotland have the greatest stake in Scotland’s future.”

Everybody interested in the campaign is asked to attend the meeting in the Islesburgh Community Centre, starting at 7.30pm.
