Letters / Not that sort of doctor
It may help if I reassure Rosa Steppanova that I will not personally be carrying out the study into the alleged effects on human health of the Viking Energy windfarm (Lacks the balls; SN 24/11/12).
Obviously not, because I’m not that sort of doctor.
But, as a trustee of a major shareholder in the project, I think I have a duty to take an intelligent interest in the scientific literature on the subject, and that’s what I’ve tried to do.
If Rosa knows of any peer-reviewed papers that prove ill effects from wind turbines placed more than 1.2km from inhabited houses, I hope she’ll let the Shetland Charitable Trust know about it.
All the available evidence will be looked at carefully and independently.
Shetland Health Board has been asked to carry out an initial search of the literature (which, as I mentioned earlier, seems to be rather sparse).
Who does the actual study has not yet been decided.
