Letters / Not a sign of a turbine
If 48 per cent said it would make no difference; that leaves 52 per cent saying it would make a difference. (Wind farms will devastate Shetland tourism, SN, 5 Nov 12)
Of course it would make a huge difference to Shetland; firstly it will destroy the landscape, wildlife, and also tourism. Shetland will be no more as we know it.
Who in their right mind is going to visit or move to an island that is overgrown in 150 meter high windmills?
As it stands at this moment it is very hard to get professional folk like doctors, dentists and physiatrists to come to Shetland. What chance does Shetland have if these proposed windmills get the green light?
There is plenty of water to both the west and east side of Shetland. Get them out there.
The SIC has spent millions on the proposed new school at the Knab, which led to nothing.
Shetland Charitable Trust with the backing of the Shetland Islands Council have given to Viking Energy somewhere in the region of 10 million, and as far as I know there has not been a turf raised by Viking Energy or their partners. The millions have gone on salaries, advertisement etc, with not a sign of a turbine.
