News / Drunken crash loses driver his licence
A DRIVER hopes to keep his job after being banned from the wheel of his car following a drunken crash in Shetland’s south mainland on Friday evening.
After spending the weekend in the cells, 25 year old Stephen McLelland, of 9 Colonial Place, Scatness, appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court where he pled guilty to driving while more than twice the limit for alcohol.
McLelland was breathalysed after police attended the scene on the main A970 at Levenwick where he had come off the road.
Honorary sheriff Eric Peterson fined him £600 and banned him for 18 months, which can be reduced if he attends an alcohol awareness course.
