News / Four sentenced for town violence

A LERWICK man has been ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work for his involvement in a drink fuelled fight while sentence on his co-accused was deferred for good behaviour.

Daniel Nicolson, of 46 Lochside, and Gavin Colvin, of Beach View, Levenwick, both pled guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and fighting with each other at Lerwick’s Hillhead in the early hours of 18 September.

The court heard how a confrontation that had originated inside Poser’s nightclub continued on the Hillhead as “quite a violent fight”.

Sheriff Graeme Napier ordered 22 year old Nicolson to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work because of his previous convictions, while 18 year old Colvin was told to pay a fine of £250 which he will get back if he is of good behaviour for the next six months.

Meanwhile, 42 year old John Richmond, of 17 Arheim, Lerwick was fined £180 after pleading guilty to assaulting two people at an address at Hoofields on 21 July. He was also ordered to pay £150 compensation to one of his victims.

In a further case of assault, 23 year old Wayne Hunter, of 80 Sandveien, Lerwick was ordered to do 54 hours of unpaid work as part of a community payback order after pleading guilty to assaulting his former partner by spitting her in the face, on 9 October.
