WHALSAY won the Shetland G&S Flooring premier league on Monday night beating Scalloway 5-1 at home at Harbison Park.
The island team needed a draw to win the league, but five goals from Stuart Shearer (2), Keith Pearson, James Shearer and Richard Williamson left no doubt about the end result that left them three points above Celtic to retain their title on the last day of the season. Darren Thomson got Scalloway’s goal.
On Friday night Whalsay had beaten Scalloway by an even larger margin, 8-2, at Fraser Park. Ness United finished bottom of the table after losing to Delting 2-1.
Delting v Spurs was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.
Meanwhile at the weekend Whitedale won the County Shield on Saturday beating Celtic 6-3 after extra time. The game had been 2-2 after 90 minutes. This means a different senior side has won each cup this season.
In the Shetland Chiropractic Reserve League Spurs beat Unst 1-0 on Sunday, Connel Gresham’s goal separating the sides.
