News / Local lad charged with hacking
AN EIGHTEEN year old teenager from Shetland has been charged on Sunday with computer misuse.
Jake Davis will have to face five charges, including unauthorized access to a computer system and “conspiracy with others to carry out a Distributed Denial of Service Attack on the website of the Serious and Organised Crime Agency (Soca), when he appears before the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The teenager was arrested in Shetland on Wednesday by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU), and flown to London for questioning.
On Friday, officers were granted a 72 hour extension to the time they could interview the 18 year old without charging him.
Davis was arrested as part of an investigation into the global hacking groups LulzSec and Anonymous. He is alleged to use the online nickname Topiary.
Davis has been living on the island of Yell until recently, although it appears as though he was arrested in Lerwick. He is hardly known in the local computer scene.
Shortly after his arrest a ‘Free Topiary’ page was created on Facebook, which by Sunday night had 180 friends.
