News / Daroja takes fortnight holiday
LOCAL shipping company Streamline is taking its freight vessel Daroja out of service from two weeks starting on Tuesday.
The firm, which has offices in Aberdeen and Lerwick, has booked all of its customers’ shipments on Serco NorthLink’s roll on/roll off ferries from 25 July until 8 August and “all cargo will move as normal”.
There have been some suggestions locally that Streamline intends to cease using the Daroja altogether – which would leave Shetland without a dedicated lift on/lift off freight service.
But managing director Gareth Crichton said the company intends to bring the vessel back into use after a fortnight.
“Yes, that is the intention,” he said. “We are already major users of the government-sponsored service and are simply taking the opportunity to assess the capacity, scheduling and general logistics of more extensive use of trailer services.”
