News / Sumburgh numbers rise
PASSENGER numbers at Sumburgh Airport rose over last year, with over 350,000 people passing through its doors.
Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL) said the increase was due to regular oil and gas flights, as well as an increase in offshore traffic.
A total of 355,667 passengers used the airport in the last financial year, which was an increase of 14 per cent on the previous 12 months.
All but three of HIAL’s airports enjoyed a rise in passengers in the last year, with just Wick, Campbelltown and Benbecula reporting downturns.
HIAL managing director Inglis Lyon commented: “Overall, the past year has been one of significant growth in passenger figures across the HIAL group, illustrating customer demand for our air services and the improved connectivity they provide for communities.”
