News / RSPB volunteers up for Young Scot award
THE RSPB Shetland Young Volunteers group has been nominated for a national award.
The group is a finalist in the environment category of this year’s Young Scot awards ceremony, which is taking place at the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow on 27 April.
The volunteers are aged between 12 and 17 and they take part in activities involved in conservation.
In the past they have cleaned up beaches regularly frequented by rare birds, worked on peat land and helped to build a garden at the Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary.
The group will go head-to-head with Fort William teenager Zeki Basan and the eco-friendly Green Salon in Dunfermline.
Young Scot chief executive Louise Macdonald commented: “This year we received hundreds of outstanding, inspirational stories of young people like the RSPB Shetland Young Volunteers going above and beyond to improve lives in their communities.
“Congratulations to all of the incredible finalists, we are so excited to give them the recognition they deserve and celebrate their incredible achievements.”
