Features / Green masterminds multimedia supergroup
A “DARKLY atmospheric” new musical collective featuring members of renowned groups including Lau, Portishead and Mogwai will bring their multimedia-influenced live show to Shetland later this year.
Flit, the mastermind of Lau accordionist Martin Green, will play Lerwick’s Mareel on Wednesday 2 November as part of a wider UK tour.
The group also features Portishead’s Adrian Utley, Mogwai’s Dominic Aitchison, Becky Unthank and Shetland Folk Festival favourite Adam Holmes.
The band will premiere their live show at the Edinburgh International Festival in August before touring venues including London’s prestigious Barbican later in the year.
Flit’s music has been written by Green, with Karine Polwart, Anaïs Mitchell, Sandy Wright and Aidan Moffat penning lyrics.
The live show will examine the theme of human migration and BAFTA-winning animators white robot – AKA Will Anderson and Ainslie Henderson – will provide immersive visuals.
“I started collecting stories of migration from my grandmother and that gave me a desire to explore the phenomenon of movement around the globe,” Green said.
“I also wanted to create a large scale show, something with more dimensions than a gig and more alive than a film, with a dream team of collaborators.
“Flit has become a world for us now, surrounded by huge handmade animations that seem like friends and a meeting of musicians and artists which seems both new and immediately natural.”
Flit will release their debut album ahead of the tour on 7 October.
- Tickets for the Mareel date will go on sale via Shetland Box Office from 13 May.
