News / Search for missing fisherman
THE SEARCH for a fisherman missing from a fishing boat 20 miles to the northwest of Orkney is continuing in “challenging” conditions.
Both the Sumburgh and Stornoway-based coastguard helicopters are searching the area.
Coastguards were alerted to the incident at 7am on Monday. Stromness lifeboat was also tasked but has now returned to base.
With gale to severe gale force westerly winds, conditions in the area – to the west of Fair Isle – have been described as “very rough” and “challenging”.
