News / Climate change events

AS PEOPLE across the planet put pressure on world leaders to cut carbon emissions during next week’s global climate change conference in Paris, two events are taking place on Sunday in Lerwick.

Local government trade union Unison will be joining local group Da Wives Atween Wadders and Stop Climate Chaos Scotland at a stall outside the Co-op supermarket between 2-5pm.

From 3-4pm, district heating scheme manager Neville Martin will lead a guided tour of the scheme’s HQ beside the power station, and talk about recycling and energy initiatives happening in Shetland.

“Thousands of people around the world are marching about climate change this weekend,” Da Wives said.

“There are lots of things we can do to help from our own home, such as buying as locally as possible, reducing waste and cutting down on food miles.

“This is something that affects us all, no matter where we live, so it would be good if people could show their support or just come along for a chat.”
