News / Food fair to celebrate local produce
A HOST of local food and drink producers are all set for the Shetland Food Fair that runs for three days at the end of this month.
This year for the first time the food fair will be held independently of the popular Shetland Craft Fair.
Also for the first time, ferry operators NorthLink will sponsor the opening night on 30 October.
The list of local producers already lined up for this year’s event include The Shetland Distillery Company, Shetland Farm Dairies, Frankie’s Fish & Chips, Skibhoul Bakery, Scoop Wholefoods, Artisan Island Cheese, Shetlandeli, Vidlin Pies, Liz’s Homebakes, Gateside Pork, Emma Louise’s The Coffee Shop, Sandwick Pork, Valhalla Brewery, Katja’s Cakes, Lerwick Brewery, Transition Turriefield and Uradale Farm.
As well as the launch of a range of new food and drink products, the fair will be livened up with “an exciting schedule of food demos and speakers” throughout Saturday and Sunday.
Opening night on Friday starting at 7pm will include a VIP reception with entertainment, special guests and a range of special offers for the event’s first customers.
Organising committee chairwoman Rhanna Turberville, from Lerwick Brewery, said this year’s celebration of local produce promised to be “one of the most exciting” in recent years.
Admission will be £2 per adult with children free, and weekend passes available for £3.50 on the door or in advance from Scoop Wholefoods.
