Council / Planning round-up 24 April
PLANS have been lodged for the demolition of a derelict crofthouse in Skellister to make way for a glamping pod.
Planning documents say the pod would typically be rented out as a holiday let and marketed as a “peaceful and relaxing retreat in nature”.
They added: “Through a thoughtful and considered approach, the design for this proposal emphasises the integration of a small-scale glamping development with the natural landscape to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all guests.”
It is said that the derelict crofthouse, and an ancillary building, were deemed to be “well beyond economic repair” after “much consideration”.
PROGRESS has been made on a proposed combined cycle and footpath in Tingwall, with a planning application now submitted.
The project is being led by local charity Win Furt.
Plans show the path would follow the road around the northern end of the loch, near the Breiwick/Califf junction.
LISTED building consent has now been applied for as part of the proposed redevelopment of the historic Park Hall building on the westside.
Planning permission to turn the building into flats was granted last year.
The two-storey property was built around 1900, and is a category C-listed. It has been empty and derelict for more than three decades, with an inspection in 2000 finding the first floor was collapsing.
A LISTED building in Ollaberry is also set for some restoration.
Plans have been submitted for work on the Booth, including partially reconstructing a gable wall, reharling and replacing doors and windows.
The Booth is a C-listed building which is said to require significant repair to its southern gable.
