Letters / Temporary speed limit is welcome

Councillors give green light to temporary 50mph limit above Levenwick

As a regular dog walker along the stretch of road above Levenwick, I welcome the news about the reduction in speed limit, if only temporary.

I regularly witness vehicles travelling well in excess of what must be 70 to 80mph.

I also do not understand why, when there is quite obviously no oncoming traffic, drivers don’t give pedestrians space by crossing the white line. A lot do but a lot are quite happy to pass within inches of me and my dogs.

That stretch of road was most pleasant when there were temporary traffic lights for ditching work. Everybody had to stop and then drive slowly.

The road design and topography may have issues but reducing speeds would easily negate them.

This is Shetland; there is absolutely no need to do anything quickly!
