Community / ‘Exciting milestone’ at renovated Bridge End outdoor centre
AN OPEN day is being held at the Bridge End Outdoor Centre in Burra tomorrow (Saturday) to allow folk the chance to view recent renovations and make suggestions about how facility can be used going forward.
It comes as Arlene Robertson has taken up the manager role at the centre.
Bridge End Outdoor Centre SCIO aims to provide low cost accommodation facilities for local, national and international groups, clubs and organisations, as well as offer it as a space for other uses.
Trustees said in a statement: “The appointment of a manager and the recent renovations are an exciting milestone in the development of the centre.
“In Shetland it is recognised challenge to attract enough local volunteers with community run initiatives, we need more friends and members.
“Indeed if the centre is to continue and the historical building preserved we need to maximise involvement of the community, taking the site into community ownership.
“Developing the centre will not only strengthen the local economy, it will provide more accessible and affordable accommodation for visitors and local groups throughout the year.”
The open day is taking place at the centre tomorrow between 10am and 3pm, with refreshments provided.
