News / Almost 500 hours of unpaid work carried out to renovate Voxter house
ALMOST 500 hours of refurbishment have been carried out at Voxter Outdoor Centre near Brae by people carrying out community payback.
Over the last three years bedrooms have been painted, the ceiling has been repaired and fences, gates and walls have been fixed by people carrying out unpaid work.
Theresa Moreland, who is a volunteer at Voxter Centre Trust which runs the centre, said they “simply couldn’t have done this without their help”.
“Without the assistance of the community payback team, there would have been no way to afford such extensive repairs and updates,” she said.
“Their hard work and dedication has made a huge difference to the overall appearance and condition of Voxter House.”
Shetland Islands Council community payback officer Julie Halcrow said the repairs highlight the “positive impact of unpaid work.”
“By offering support to charities, and other organisations and individuals, those involved in paying back to communities gain a valuable experience and see a benefit to the local community,” she added.
A total of 498 hours of work have been carried out at Voxter over the last three years.
