Arts / Largest private donation yet for folk festival as new sponsor comes on board
SHETLAND Folk Festival says it has secured its largest ever private donation ahead of its upcoming 43rd event.
It said it has reached a £10,000 sponsorship agreement with new company Shetland Stays.
The company provides full-service property management, ensuring that visitors “enjoy high-quality, hassle-free stays while helping local property owners maximise their rentals”.
Louise Jamieson, representing the Shetland Folk Festival committee, said: “In a time when private and public funding is becoming increasingly scarce, it’s amazing to have Shetland Stays come forward with our largest ever private donation.
“This allows us to focus on delivering yet another fantastic year of music and culture for Shetland.”
Shetland Stays director Emily Smith said: “We want to show our commitment to providing excellent service to visitors to the isles, but to do that, we also need to ensure that Shetland’s exciting cultural events are well supported.
“The impact of events like the Shetland Folk Festival on the local economy and tourism sector cannot be underestimated. We’re thrilled to be backing an event that brings so much talent to the isles, benefiting both locals and visitors alike.”
The music event is run by the Shetland Folk Festival Society, a charity which relies on grant funding and sponsorship as well as ticket sale income.
It comes ahead of the 43rd Shetland Folk Festival, which kicks off on 1 May.
Tickets are on sale now but many events have already sold out.
Meanwhile Shetland Stays is hosting an open event tonight (Thursday) at the Dowry in Lerwick at 7pm where landlords and tourism sector providers can find out more about what the company does.
