Energy / Work to replace damaged Viking blade to commence soon
WORK to replace a damaged blade on one of the Viking Energy turbines near Laxo is set to get underway soon.
The blade was damaged in late October last year when large chunks of material were seen to be hanging off the blade.
Debris from the blade remained scattered over a large area next to the turbine for a number of months with wind farm owner SSE Renewables now saying that most of the debris has been removed.
A spokesperson for the company said: “Work is currently underway to assemble two cranes for the installation and replacement of the damaged blade at Viking wind farm.
“The weather will be closely monitored over the coming days to identify an optimal window to allow the blade to be exchanged safely.
“The majority of the debris has been safely cleared from the site with final removal works to recommence following the blade exchange.”
The operation of the wind farm remained unaffected by the to one of the turbines, SSE Renewables said.
“We’d like to thank the local community for their patience at this time and remind members of the public to continue to adhere to our site safety restrictions and exclusion zones while this process is ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
