Transport / Ferry Hjaltland out of service after flood in pump room
NORTHLINK’S passenger sailings could be hit from Sunday onwards after a flood in the pump room of the Hjaltland on Thursday night.
Nobody was injured in the incident, Serco NorthLink managing director Stuart Garrett said.
However the ferry will remain out of action as investigations into the impact of the incident now begin.
The Hjaltland was due to return to service on Monday, having been in dry dock since Monday 10 February.
NorthLink said it was not possible to put a timeframe on her return to service.
That could affect passenger sailings from Sunday onwards, and the ferry operator said it would contact all passengers who would be impacted by the news.
“The MV Hrossey continues to operate our passenger service between Aberdeen, Kirkwall and Lerwick, with MV Helliar and Hildasay providing freight services,” Garrett added.
“Further information will be provided as it becomes available.”
