Letters / Let’s be having you

With the debate about the future of renewable in and around Shetland, a proper policy and strategy for the SIC, community councils and the local business and fishing industries are essential.

Outwith negotiations and current planning law, how do the local political emotes and business community hope to get a reasonable deal e.g local tariff, local ownership, if no powers are given, or taken, to back up policy and strategy.

Amendment to the Zetland County Council Act of 1974 and new piers under the Islands (Scotland) Act of 2018 are required to allow for balance again at the huge financial power of the big energy companies and their vested interests in Hollywood and Westminster.

Such economic, planning and infrastructure powers are required, not necessarily autonomy, just required derogation from national UK and Scottish legislation makers, as argued fir by Daniel Gear, Tom Wills, previous council convener and leader and four or five councillors.

Let’s be having you, expensive political consultants – failed Tory candidates – will not hack it.
