Community / Football association donates to Mind Your Head in tribute to two former players

THE SHETLAND Football Association (SFA) has donated £400 to Mind Your Head following the deaths of two former footballers.

Iain Goodlad and Jonni Manson, both of whom died last year, played senior football in the isles and also represented Shetland in rugby and strongman competitions respectively.

SFA president Jakob Eunson said they had decided to donate the sum to the charity as a way of paying tribute to the pair.

“They were both football players so we thought it would be really good to do something,” he told Shetland News.

“This is the smallest thing we could really do to try and support a much-needed charity.

“Hopefully in some way this can make a difference.”

The money was collected from the SFA through fines paid by member clubs to the association.

Eunson said clubs were fined £20 every time they did not attend the SFA’s monthly meetings, and through the year decided it would be good to turn “a negative into a positive”.

“There has been a lot of loss of young life [in Shetland recently],” he said.

“If we can advertise and show these services that Mind Your Head provide, and if we can help one soul, that’s great.”
