Community / Levenwick Hall could be forced to close as ‘exhausted’ committee step aside

THE LEVENWICK hall, campsite and garden could close in September unless a new committee is urgently found.

Chairwoman Elizabeth Mitchell said the current committee are “exhausted and need to step back” following years of dedication.

And she said without new blood they would be forced to shut the “extremely profitable” campsite and hall later this year.

An extraordinary general meeting will be held on Thursday 20 February at the hall as a last-chance step to avoid closure.

Mitchell said the hall’s committee had worked hard over the past few years to maintain and improve the communal facility, on a mostly voluntary basis.

“The result is a place which is hugely well used and where local folk can gather in comfort to enjoy the fruits of all this hard work,” she said.

However, she added the current committee were now “exhausted and need to step back.”

“To be a custodian of this organisation is a great privilege – but it is not difficult and it is very rewarding,” Mitchell said.

“The infrastructure has been improved greatly over the last few years and more recent administrative advances have led to a huge reduction in the time and effort needed to run the place on a day-to-day basis.

“Without the help and support that we now seek, the risk of losing this important community asset is very real and very imminent.”

The Levenwick committee chairwoman said the facility was “hugely well used”, with a “good bank balance and well functioning systems”.

Anyone interested in joining the committee is asked to attend the meeting at the Levenwick Hall on Thursday 20 February at 7.30pm.
