THE COUNCIL flag has been flying half-mast over Lerwick Town Hall to mark the funeral of former councillor Elizabeth Nicolson whose funeral took place on Wednesday.
She was the councillor for Unst from May 1986 and May 1990 and served on several council committees during her term.
SCOTTISH Government contracts have delivered faster internet access to more than 3,300 hard-to-reach households and businesses in Orkney and Shetland, according to new figures.
More than 1,200 properties now have access to full fibre in Shetland through the R100 programme, with the latest areas including parts of Yell and Unst.
Openreach also said in addition to the R100 rollout in the islands, upgrades to Lerwick and Kirkwall through commercial build plans are due to start this year.
SHETLAND pianist Neil Georgeson is set to return to the isles to perform at Mareel on 1 March.
He will perform a new piano recital called Wanderer, which will include pieces from the likes of Schubert, Liszt and Grieg.

THE SWAN Trust is seeking a new trustee with specific skills in finance to take on its treasurer role.
Trustees meet monthly and are supported in the management of the vessel by part time paid administrative staff, seasonal paid boat crew and an all year-round team of hard working volunteers.
