STRONGMAN Cameron Nisbet has been crowned Scotland’s strongest man in the under-72kg weight class at an event this weekend.
Nisbet finished first in all five of his events at the UK Natural Strongman contest in Edinburgh to complete a clean sweep and secure another trophy.
It comes after he became UK’s strongest man in the under-70kg category at an event in Atherstone in April.
And he then went on to be named world’s second strongest man in the same weight class in Nuneaton last October.
Nisbet has followed that up with more success, and he thanked Natural Strongman for “giving the new lightweight category a chance”.
He was not the sole Shetland entry in the event, with as many as five strongmen and women travelling down from the isles.
Tegan Patterson finished fourth in the women’s under-73kg category, with Jonathan Manson (under-105kg), Ryan Garriock and Shyren Batziris (both under-90kg) rounding out the contingent from Shetland.
Shetland Weight Training Club had supported the group with their travel costs, and said it was “delighted” to help them take part in the competition.
GEORGE Robesten played a vital role in helping Ross County snatch a potentially decisive point against Hibs on his first league start for the club.
Having come off the bench for seven minutes against Dundee United earlier in the season, Robesten was thrust in from the start on Saturday at home to the capital club.
And he took his chance in the Staggies line-up, providing a late intervention with just minutes to go to help his side earn a draw.
Ross County missed a first half penalty before Dylan Levitt put Hibs in front just minutes before half-time.
But Robesten drilled a low cross into the box to his team-mate Kieran Phillips, who was upended by the Hibs keeper for a second penalty of the match.

Ronan Hale this time lashed the spot kick home for a point that moves 10thplaced Ross County further clear of bottom side St Johnstone and above Kilmarnock.
Robesten, who previously played for Scalloway FC, earned the praise of County manager Don Cowie following the game, with Cowie telling the BBC he had put in “a great ball” for the leveller.
Next up for Robesten is the daunting task of a trip to Ibrox to face Rangers on 2 February.
In the North Caledonian League there was disappointment for Golspie Sutherland and keeper Henry Oldbury, who slipped to a 3-1 defeat to second placed Invergordon.
That defeat leaves Golspie six points behind leaders Halkirk, and means Invergordon remain lodged between the two of them – but with two games in hand on their title rivals.
DISTANCE runner Layla Todd has been selected to represent Scotland at an event in Leeds next month.
Todd is part of a four-person under-20 women’s team who will tackle the Home Countries cross-country challenge on Saturday 8 February.
Shetland Amateur Athletics Club, who Todd represents, paid tribute to her achievement, offering “huge congratulations”.
It comes just two weeks after she finished fifth out of 66 competitors in the Scottish Athletics cross-country championships in Glasgow, helping her North of Scotland team to a bronze medal.
SHETLAND’S netballers are into the next round of the Scottish Cup after a narrow win over Bellahouston in Aberdeen.
Having braved the boat down for the Sunday morning match, Shetland made a slow start and trailed their opponents 16-12 at the end of the first quarter.
However after making some changes to the side at the beginning of the second quarter, the blues reeled off seven goals without reply to turn the tie in their favour.
A few unforced errors allowed Bellahouston back into the match in the third quarter, and with one quarter to go there was just one goal in it.
However Shetland knuckled down and cut out the errors to ensure they eventually beat Bellahouston 54-51 to earn safe passage to the next round.
Bellahouston picked out Kirsti Leask as Shetland’s best performer, while Emma Jamieson got the nod from her team-mates.
Dannielle Witt was the coaches’ player of the match.
