Transport / Dry docking delays to cause disruption to Whalsay ferry service
THE WHALSAY ferry service will operate to a revised timetable for three weeks due to unforeseen dry docking delays, the council has confirmed.
The revised timetable will begin on Monday 10 February, with bookings available on all sailings.
MV Hendra will cover ferry services on the Whalsay route, with MV Filla also operating on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The revised timetable will operate until Saturday 1 March and is now available to view online.
The SIC said these changes are due to unforeseen dry docking delays for MV Linga and MV Fivla.
It also apologised to passengers for any inconvenience caused.
Local councillor Duncan Anderson said in a post on his Facebook page that the situation is “obviously far from ideal”.
“Every effort has been made to minimise disruption and put extra runs in place.,” he said.
“It is the hope of myself and others that the SIC can procure an additional vessel to avoid these situations but in the meantime this sort of disruption is sometimes unavoidable.”
Earlier this month the Bluemull Sound ferry service also faced disruption due to dry docking delays.
