SCALLOWAY Meat Company is to become the new home of the post office in the village from late March.

The current branch operates from Scalloway’s pharmacy on Main Street, which has been operated by a temporary postmaster.

However with that lease having “unfortunately expired”, the Post Office said it would now be moving along the road from Thursday 20 March.

“A new postmaster has been appointed, who has identified an alternative location to operate Scalloway Post Office to provide service,” it said.

The current post office will close on Saturday 3 March at 1pm, with no alternative available in Scalloway until nearly three weeks later.

The Post Office said customers should use alternative branches in Lerwick during that period.

Scalloway Meat Company will open the post office for the first time at 2pm on Thursday 20 March, and will be open six days a week.

Its opening times will be 9am-1pm, and then 2-5pm from Monday to Friday. It will be open from 12-5pm on Saturdays.

The Post Office said it was “keen to restore service to the community as soon as possible”.

“The opportunity to give feedback on access into within the premises will close on 21 February,” it added.

“Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 327458.”
