Police / Man arrested in connection with grounding of fishing boat

POLICE have confirmed that a man was arrested in connection with the grounding of a fishing boat in Yell Sound at the weekend.

Two fishermen were rescued from the scallop boat Craignair by crew from the Yell ferry Dagalien after it ran aground on the isle of Samphrey late on Saturday night.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware of a boat having run aground on an island in Yell Sound, around 12.45am on Sunday, 19 January, 2025.

“Two men were rescued from the boat.

“One man was arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are at an early stage.”
