A SECOND boat will be joining the Mousa Boat company later this year, offering chartered tours for wildlife enthusiasts or photography groups.

Company director Darron Smith said they were building the new boat to “take a little bit of heat off” of their dedicated Mousa vessel.

The new boat is being built locally by Poleson Marine and Thulecraft, and is expected to be completed around June.

Smith said the current Solan 4 had been “re-engined and re-wired”, with the next obvious improvement “to build another boat”.

“The new boat will be able to do the smaller photography groups and wildlife watching, while leaving the current boat to concentrate on Mousa,” he said.

“When we take the Solan 4 to places like Noss it leaves Mousa without a service for up to three hours, so having a second boat just makes sense.”

The Mousa Boat company announced the news on Facebook on Sunday night, saying the new vessel was “destined for unforgettable adventures”.

“With the ability of being transported and launched anywhere with a slipway she can cover any charter location,” it wrote.

“Main focus ports will be Sumburgh Boating club, Aithsvoe at Cunningsburgh and Lerwick.

“However we would also like to showcase the amazing cliff scenery around the South West of Shetland Fitful Head, Colsa, St Ninians and South Havra.

“Get ready for breathtaking photography tours, exhilarating whale watching, immersive wildlife & history tours and fishing trips.”

The new boat will be able to carry up to 12 passengers.
