Education / Four aquaculture modern apprentices nominated for national awards
FOUR UHI Shetland aquaculture modern apprentice students have been shortlisted for the 2025 ALBAS Awards.
Lantra Scotland is the sector skills council for land, aquaculture and environmental conservation industries, and it hosts annual awards for land-based and aquaculture skills (the ALBAS).
The UHI Shetland nominees are:
- Lewis Henderson – SVQ3 aquaculture apprentice
- Derek Dunning – SVQ2 aquaculture apprentice
- Robaidh Halliday – SVQ4 aquaculture apprentice
- Mary Collins – SVQ aquaculture apprentice
UHI Shetland’s head of marine science and aquaculture Stuart Fitzsimmons said: “The nominations today are a testament to our students’ dedication and hard work, supported by UHI Shetland staff.
“We look forward to the ALBAS on 6 March 2025, and wish our nominated students every success on the night”.
UHI Shetland supports the aquaculture industry by offering a wide range of courses designed to suit the range of industry standards and needs.
With more than 100 modern apprentices in aquaculture this year alone, many of the courses offered by UHI Shetland are delivered around Scotland.
