Council / Main contractor announced for major Brae school project
A PREFERRED main contractor has been announced for the proposed £42.5 million Brae education campus in the North Mainland.
Robertson Construction Group will build the campus, designed for up to 388 pupils, on behalf of Shetland Islands Council and its development partner on the project, Hub North Scotland.
The project is still subject to approval by councillors, who will consider a full business case for the school in 2026.
Councillor Davie Sandison, who is the chairman of the education and families committee, called it a “significant step forward for the project”.
“The project team are currently working through the detail of site design and costs,” he added.
Hub North Scotland chief executive Richard Park agreed this was a “key moment” for the proposed Brae campus.
And Elliot Robertson, chief of Robertson Group, said the project was “an opportunity toshowcase our expertise in delivering high-quality, community-centred learning facilities within island environments.
“The school will play a vital role at the heart of the community and as a responsible business we aim to leave a lasting legacy through the delivery of social and economic benefits.”
Brae is one of four projects Robertson will have under the programme, with others in Aberdeen and Mull.
