Arts / Cleeves to revive Jimmy Perez character in new book

BEST SELLING author Ann Cleeves is bringing the Jimmy Perez character back in her next book – but this time living in Orkney.

Crime writer Ann Cleeves.

Cleeves, whose Shetland series provided inspiration for the crime drama TV show of the same name, will return with The Killing Stones in October.

Readers said a goodbye to detective Perez at the end of Cleeves’ previous book Wild Fire – first published in 2018 – when he left Shetland to make a new life with partner Willow Reeves and the baby they were expecting.

To continue their story, Cleeves has written the new standalone novel Killing Stones, due out on 7 October.

A post on Cleeves’ website said: “Readers will rejoin Jimmy and Willow who are now living in the Orkney islands when the death of a childhood friend forces Perez into a deeply personal investigation.”

The writer added: “I’m delighted to be heading north again, and to be spending more time with Jimmy Perez and Willow Reeves.

“This time, I’m exploring their new home in the beautiful islands of Orkney.”

The character Jimmy Perez was a mainstay of the Shetland TV show until actor Douglas Henshall left the programme in 2022.

Ashley Jensen has taken on the lead role in the last two series with her character DI Ruth Calder.
