Marine / Damaged Dunter still out of action

ONE of Shetland Islands Council’s Sullom Voe tug boats is only expected to return to service in the next couple of weeks after suffering damage to her bow late last year.

The Dunter is currently south in Leith for a permanent repair.

“A temporary repair has been carried out locally to the bow of Dunter, which has since been approved by the MCA,” a Shetland Islands Council spokesperson said.

“The tug has now sailed to a facility on the Scottish mainland for a permanent repair, before the vessel returns to service at the Port of Sullom Voe, hopefully within the next couple of weeks.”

The Dunter was pictured with a hole in her bow, above the waterline, in December.

There were no injuries and no pollution following the damage.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch was notified.

A spokesperson for the council said they were unable to comment on the cause of the damage while an investigation was ongoing.

The SIC has four tugs which service the Port of Sullom Voe, assisting oil tankers to berth at the terminal.
