Transport / Weather disruption continues
THE UNSETTLED January weather is again having an impact on local transport links.
Inter-island ferries across Yell and Bluemull sounds are down to single vessel operations due to the high winds.
And there is a warning of possible further disruption to the services later in the day due to the forecast.
Some bus services in the North Isles are also affected.
Tonight’s NorthLink services to and from Shetland have been amended.
Meanwhile, the morning flights to and from Aberdeen are delayed for a second consecutive day (see our story from yesterday here).
Loganair’s Sumburgh flight, due to leave Aberdeen at 6.35am, was airborne by 10.19am, almost four hours late.
However, Aberdeen Airport was closed until 9.30 due to snow and ice.
Loganair’s chief operations officer Natalie Bush told Shetland News that the aircraft had been de-iced ahead of the airport opening again, and once passenger had boarded flight LM070 the aircraft departed at 10.19am.
The Met Office has issued another yellow warning for snow and ice for the north of Scotland, including Shetland, from midday today until until 12pm tomorrow.
A detailed forecast can be found at our weather pages here.
