Transport / Fault in de-icing equipment leads to long flight delays
LOGANAIR has apologised to its customers after its morning flight from Aberdeen was delayed by more than six hours as a result of a fault in the de-icing equipment.
The airline described the breakdown of the de-icing equipment, a service provided by a ground handling company, as “unacceptable”.
Flight LM070 finally made it to Sumburgh at just before 2pm, when it should have landed at 7.40am.
The return flight, due to leave at 8.15am, left Sumburgh Airport at half past two in the afternoon.
A number of charter flights from Aberdeen were also affected by the de-icing issue, as were other Loganair flights from Aberdeen.
A spokesperson for the airline said: “We are in touch with the third-party service provider and have made it clear that these service issues are unacceptable.
“We continue to work closely with this partner to fully restore the service.
“We remain fully committed to our customers, and would like to extend our apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
Aberdeen Airport said it wanted to make clear the de-icing of individual aircraft is the responsibility of the airlines and their contracted ground handling teams, and outside the airport’s direct control.
“The airport’s runway and taxiways have been tirelessly worked on overnight to be open and operational today (Monday), a spokesperson for Aberdeen Airport said.
