Weather / Another weather warning for sleet and snow
THE MET Office has issued a yellow weather warning for persistent sleet and snow today (Saturday) that could lead to further disruptions on the roads.
The weather warning is in addition to a yellow alert for ice that covers the whole of the north of Scotland, including Shetland, and is in place until10am on Sunday.
The new warning comes as conditions across the islands have much improved as the north westerly wind has eased and is due to swing around to the northeast and increase to force five later.
Some bus services in the North Isles have been cancelled.
Shetland Islands Council has meanwhile said that due to the poor road conditions its waste services teams have not been able to collect grey-lidded recycling bins in the south, north and west mainland.
A spokesperson said: “Attempts will be made to collect household rubbish in Lerwick and Scalloway on Saturday, weather permitting.
“The service will return to normal on Monday, but please note that grey-lidded bins will not now be picked up until the next scheduled date.”
The council apologised for the “unavoidable disruption”.
