Weather / Heavy snow makes for difficult driving conditions
FOLLOWING heavy snow showers and near gale force winds overnight road conditions in Shetland have been described as extremely tricky.
Council snow ploughs are out clearing roads and helping motorist who got stuck in snow drifts.
Police chief inspector Chris Sewell said driving conditions in Shetland remain challenging.
“I would encourage drivers to drive to the road conditions and where roads are icy to drive at a slow speed in a high gear,” he said.
“Drivers can get further advice on winter driving by visiting the Police Scotland website, which I would encourage them to visit.”
Meanwhile a yellow weather warning for ice until 10 am on Saturday has been issued by the Met Office.
All bus services were suspended earlier today, however some services including the Lerwick town service and Lerwick to Sumburgh route have started running again with other continue to be suspended.

Ferry services across Bluemull Sound were suspended earlier in the day but are expected to be back on by midday, while the Yell ferry runs a single vessel service.
There are also some delays at Sumburgh airport while the morning flight from Edinburgh was diverted.
